 | New Front Sight for Glock Pistols --by Paul Baumgardner, Glock Armorer One
of the only bad things on a Glock pistol has always been the plastic
sights. The front sight could be swept off the gun by a
presentation from a holster or even pulling on the sight with
fingers. And the rear sight was so big that it did not allow for
a good sight picture in combination with the front dot sight.
Well, part of that trouble has been resolved.
Glock has a new front sight that is shipping.
The
old front sight had two legs that went into the front sight opening on
the slide and a plastic insert pressed the legs open and kept it held
to the slide. That was okay -- but this is better.
Now Glock has introduced a new front sight that uses a screw that keeps
the front sight attached to the slide. The screw nut is a 3/16th
size which is the same as what is used on Trijicon, Meprolight, Warren
Tactical and many other after market metal sights for the Glock
pistol The shape of the sight is larger and should wear better in
and out of a holster. The screw is metal, but the threads on the
sight are plastic so Loctite will only help a little. This is a nice
addition to the Glock family. The only other great fix would be
for the front sight to be metal. A metal front sight is a current
option from Glock.
Both Glock and ARO-TEK make a tool for removing the nut.
