Tiger Valley
Elm Fork Wednesday Night Classes
On April 8 Tiger Valley is bringing our moving target system to Elm Fork for our "Moving Targets & Moving Shooter".  Our system allows for remote control of the target, varying both direction and speed.  This is a rare opportunity to learn the skills and put into practice engaging a moving target.

The cost is $65, pre-registration is not required, and the event begins at 6:30 PM at Elm Fork.  Bring your pistol, holster, 250 rounds of ammunition, and eye/ear protection.  This class was scheduled originally for March but was rained out.

April 29 will be a "High Speed 2-Gun" match with cash prizes.  We've reorganized the match format to keep the events moving along quickly and will feature a variety of rifle and pistol challenges.  Plate racks, dueling trees, and specialty target systems will all be in use.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place.  The event runs from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.  Bring rifle, pistol, holster, safety gear, 100 rounds rifle and 50 rounds of pistol ammunition.  Cost is $65.

Pre-registration is not required, but please let us know via email or phone if you're planning to attend so we can have the appropriate resources.

Facility Spotlight - Waco Facility Overview
This article is the first in a series to highlight the facilities of Tiger Valley's Waco location.  Facility details including the 1000 yard KD range, 1300 yard UKD range, 30' fastrope and rappel tower, tactical bays, and specialized training systems will be covered in future editions.

Located 15 minutes northeast of Waco, Tiger Valley is easily accessible from the Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston metro areas.  Waco Regional Airport and the TSTC Industrial airport are located nearby.  The 400+ acre facility is encircled with an eight-foot security fence, with access provided by two locked gates.  The facility is divided into a 200 acre range area and a 240 acre safety drop zone.  It is laid out so that multiple ranges and facilities may be used simultaneously.

A 10 person bunkhouse with two full bathrooms and shower facilities is complimented with a kitchen that includes an ice machine, microwave, oven, stove top, and large grill.  The bunkhouse is available for many of our open registration events at a rate of $20 per night.  Please call in advance.  Campsights with water and electricity are adjacent to the bunkhouse.  Nearby Waco offers a variety of accommodations as well.

Behind the Scenes - LaRue Tactical 3 Gun
by T.J. Pilling
Tiger Valley held last year’s 3 Gun with the sponsorship of Mark LaRue.  Greg Coker, director of LE and Military sales was the driving force for collecting prizes that made the match a great success.

Greg approached me after the match and wanted to run with the whole event the next year, from sponsorship to designing stages.  We set a date and ran with the project.  Over the next eight months we discussed everything from a doable number of shooters to stage design.  Our first thought on the number of contestants was 120 that quickly changed when the match filled and we had large numbers of loyal shooters who still wanted in.  We upped the number to 160 and the match filled again within several days.

By now you know that the best kept secret of the match was the Dillon mini-gun.  Only Greg Coker and Mark LaRue would have the stroke to pull off that type of coupe.  To my knowledge no other event has had a weapon system as advanced at this one that every contestant got to shoot.  Yes, you might have gotten to ride in an APC, but they didn’t let you fool with the weapons.  Larue did.  Beside the gun, considerations had to make sure sufficient ammunition was available for a gun that eats .308 at 50 rounds a second.

Greg was in the week before the match setting up props and building stages.  Things got a little crazy when the weather turned south on us.  Rain had saturated the property the week before and now we had another front dump 5 inches on an already wet property.  We lost three half-day workdays because of the rain.  Friday, the day when the Range Officers were to shoot, we were still setting up stages and moving props.  They started shooting around lunch, and at that time we were confident that all the bugs were out of the stages.

Did I mention food?  LaRue fed everyone on the site from Friday at noon until the last person left on Sunday.  The food count was 60 briskets and 700 sausages along with drinks and chips.

When the range was called cold on Sunday afternoon everyone went to the building for the prize table.  Over one hundred thousand dollars in gear was on the prize table.  Everything from uppers to pistols, Remington shotguns and rifles and every type of mount, case and piece of kit you could imagine.  No one left empty handed.

I want to thank Mark LaRue and Greg Coker, as well as everyone for participating is a great match.  Thanks also to match participant Patrick Holsted, who kindly allowed us to show you his match video.

NRA Law Enforcement 3-Gun Recap
Tiger Valley was the host of one of eight NRA Law Enforcement 3-gun matches this year.  These matches are oriented to encourage officers to train bring back training ideas to their departments.  The match consisted of eight stages where participants were pushed to shoot from odd angles, uneven surface, and under and over obstacles.  Several stages had vehicles positioned to mimic traffic stops.  Ammunition was limited in the long gun to force the shooter to think as well as to transition to secondary weapon systems.

The end of the match brought with it a substantial prize table, where thousands of dollars of gear waited.  No one left empty handed.  Officers were crazy to not shoot this event.  The entry fee of $35 was chump change to what everyone dragged off the prize table.  Add to the fact that the skills and training acquired might save a life in the field some day.

Many thanks to the NRA and to all of those who attended!
