Tiger Valley
Elm Fork Wednesday Night Classes
Rescheduled after last month's unfortunately-timed storms, our "Undercover Carry" class will be held on April 30th.
Bring your daily carry pistol (snub-nose revolver or small framed automatic) utilizing whatever practical carry method, or methods, you currently use.  The course will cover the fundamentals of drawing and deploying these weapons at "in the hole" distances.  Pistol, 200 rounds, holster(s), and safety gear is all that is required.  Course fee is $65.  The course runs from 6:30 PM to 9 PM.  No pre-registration is required, just show up!

Next on the agenda for Elm Fork is a Defensive Shotgun Overview class on May 14.  Following classes include a Carbine Combat Match, Intro to Pistol, AK Operator, and Advanced Handgun Techniques.  Schedule and additional information can be found by clicking on these classes in the "Upcoming Events" section of the newsletter, found near this bottom of this page.

Equipment Spotlight - Rohrbaugh R9S
The quest for a daily carry pistol that still meets basic defensive needs is not an easy one.  Recent CHL holders quickly figure out that carrying anything like a full or medium size pistol requires a considerable level of dedication along with a willingness to adapt ones wardrobe to accommodate the weapon.  Little pistols such as the .32 and .380 Seecamp have a loyal following and are one of the few bright spots in the small-frame automatic pistol world as many of the polymer guns in .32, .380, and 9 mm have failed to impress their owners.  Five-shot hammerless revolvers remain a top choice for many concealed carry conditions.

A fairly recent addition to the marketplace are the Rohrbaugh pistols, manufactured in small numbers in the state of New York.  The Rohrbaugh R9 is absolutely tiny and chambered in 9 mm.  The pistol is all stainless steel and aluminum, double action, 12.8 ounces, and carries 6 rounds in the magazine.

The double action trigger is an absolute dream.  While long in pull, it is smooth and easy, very similar to working a fine double action revolver.  The pistol is quick to point and easily accurate enough to work well for shooting plate racks at the range.

After receiving ammunition recommendations from Rohrbaugh, reliability has been flawless.  Recoil is noticeable, though more due to the flip of the small pistol.  The unpleasantness of shooting similar-sized polymer guns is noticeably absent.  While you won't want to shoot a Tiger Valley 2-day pistol class with the little pistol, it's a heck of a lot of fun to shoot and quickly gives confidence to the shooter.

The magazine is secured with a release on the bottom of the firearm.  While not quick to change and requiring two hands to operate, some speed will come with practice, and the design keeps the profile of the pistol to a minimum.  For the same reasons the pistol also does not have a slide stop.

The pistol it great for daily carry.  A DeSantis Nemesis holster lets you simply drop the pistol into a front pocket.  When heading out for the day, this combination allows you to be always armed with a capable handgun.

Call Rohrbaugh directly and you're immediately greeted by Maria, who provides absolutely fantastic support and will answer any question at all.  It is customer service at it's finest.

While not inexpensive by any means, the Rohrbaugh R9S is an absolutely fantastic firearm.  Highly recommended.
